Kolej Tuanku Ja’afar (KTJ) is one of the region’s premier international schools for students aged 3 to 19 years. We provide boarding from the age of 11 with students from over 20 different countries across Asia, Europe, Australia and Africa. In the Secondary School, we have established ourselves over 20 years as one of the leading British-style, co-educational boarding schools in Malaysia and in August 2013 we opened our state of the art Primary School. The school currently has 950 students on its roll.
Quoting a parent , ‘KTJ provides an outstanding educational experience. Our son is thriving and for our daughter, it laid the academic and social foundations for her undergraduate studies at Oxford’
If you would like to be a part of a constantly developing and progressing school, not only in teaching and learning, but also where buildings and new facilities are concerned without leaving the development of its staff behind, you are on the right page.
KTJ spreads across over 80 acres of beautiful Malaysian countryside, offering a peaceful teaching, learning and living environment for its students and staff with an excellent range of facilities.
We are a registered charity, so all proceeds are channelled back into the school, which is why we are able to sustain a continuous development programme.
Academic excellence is an essential component of a good school. KTJ achieves these, not least, due to the expertise and dedication of the highly qualified staff. In addition, the wide range of extracurricular activities provides students with the opportunity to develop interests which will stay with them for life. Music and drama are well-supported and available to all; sport is strongly represented at all levels and the students are encouraged to reach very high standards of skill and teamwork. We promote an international outlook that will have a lasting benefit to the students.
‘Having never taught outside of the UK, I was excited but apprehensive about the prospect of teaching abroad, but the support received from KTJ quickly put my mind at ease. After being offered the job, the school were particularly efficient at dealing with all administration, and I was provided with contracts, itineraries, draft timetables, photographs of accommodation etc. months before I flew out.
Since arriving in Malaysia, KTJ has continued to make me feel like a valued and appreciated member of staff, and I have had numerous opportunities to discuss any uncertainties or concerns. Similarly, as a teacher I have felt trusted to deliver the curriculum as I see fit, without being inundated with policies and administration tasks that have previously frustrated me. Students are particularly conscientious, polite and supportive, which allows a freedom within the classroom that I previously craved, and it’s been a great place to try out new teaching styles. I’m so glad that this was the school that I chose’.
‘As I look back on my first term at KTJ, my fondest memories are of the friendship I have found here. KTJ is a beautiful school, a school which encourages and celebrates excellence in all areas, a school which is always looking for ways to become better. Above all, though, it is a school which offers kindness, compassion and friendship to all. When I go home during the holidays, these are the things I will tell my family about, for these are the things which have made my first term here so special.’
